Work Smarter – Work Disconnected

What do you mean work disconnected????? How can I work if I’m
disconnected? Well believe me it is easy.

This is short and to the point. REMOVE THE DISTRACTIONS!

  • Turn of the phone! Cell phones too!
  • Turn of the e-mail!
  • Turn off Skype and Facebook
  • Close the Office Door and put up a sign “DO NOT DISTURB”

If you remove these distraction, you will get a flow going which means

Taking Control Of Your Inbox

Okay, how can we live without e-mail these days, I mean If I don’t get my fix
of e-mail each day – I will have withdrawls.

I recently participated in the 2009 Aids Life Cycle 8 and was with skeleton
e-mail for 7 days. I mean I had access to 1 of my 25 different accounts!  It was
almost like quitting nicotine 13 years ago!

But I made it, and it made me stronger too. I learned that I do not have to
have the e-mail program running in the background 24-7. I can check it
once or twice a day and the sun still came up, and the world did not fall
apart! Whew!

There are many ways to handle e-mail. The system I have developed from
reading several articles on the subject is to look at my e-mail 3 times a day.

I set my Action Timer for 15 minutes and I take care of my e-mail, I take every
account to zero unread e-mails. I respond to those that need or have a quick
response. (Quick Note: the more concise the e-mail the easier to read and
take care of, start writing concise e-mails!)

After that, I shut the e-mail program down and remove that distraction
from the rest of my day.

If you really look at this closely, you can save a whole bunch of time each
day by not interrupting your other tasks by answering e-mails as they come in.

See if you can stay away from your e-mail for several hours at a time. You
will find yourself more productive!

It is time to stop wasting hours of your valuable time mindlessly surfing the internet. I mean
lets face it, with just a click you can be on an endless tangent wave that won’t stop until
you unplug the darn computer.

Or you can be smart, set a certain amount of time aside, say 30 minutes to an hour, and
stick to it!  If you really concentrate on what your tasks are on the internet for that session,
I bet you can accomplish everything in 30 minutes or less.

I have found that by using The Action Machine in my daily routine, I am getting more
done in a shorter period of time than I ever have. When I set the timer on
The Action Machine
and know I only have a certain amount of time to get something done. I find
I do not get nearly as distracted, and I get what needs to be done in less time than I thought I
actually needed.

It is truly a great tool to use if you want to be more productive surfing the Internet!

As a member of KickInTheButt.com, you will get a series of action timers that
can be imported into The Action Machine, which will allow you to start making
your time more productive with even less effort!

Are You Wasting Your Life Away?

How Much of Your Life are your wasting?

Please, you need to be honest with yourself when you read this!

When you take a step back and evaluate what you accomplished each day, what are the typical results?

  • Are you happy with what you accomplished?
  • Did you spend too much time sleeping? watching TV?
  • Or Did you get everything done you set out to get done? If so, Congratulations!

Lets do a little math for this post.

Something we wish we could all change, but can’t is the fact that there are only 24 hours in each day.
If we are generous and give ourselves 8 hours for sleep, then there is 16 hours left in the day, or 112
hours in a week for other stuff.

Are You Making The Most of These 112 Hours?

Okay, some more leniency, eating, getting ready for the day and other leisurely activities can take
up another 3 hours per day (this is very lenient). You still have 91 hours per week for getting things
done in your life.

Still working the grind, 40 to 60 hours per week?  Will give you the 60 hours per week, leaving 31
in the week left to get things done. That is almost 4 1/2 hours per day!  What can you do in 4 1/2
hours extra per day?

  • Watch TV
  • Read a good book
  • Start an Online Business
  • Make That Online Business Grow
  • Take a Nap
  • Learn how to get 8 hours of work done in that 4 1/2 hours

All good things, and everyone has a different opinion.

However if you are looking to improve your life, and actually get somewhere
then I suggest you make those 4 1/2 hours count. Heck even making 1 hour a
day count, will get you further along than 99% of the population.

Two things I recommend you do right now before it is too late!

  1. Become a member of KickInTheButt.com &
  2. Start learning how to maximize your extra 4 1/2 hours per day i just found for you!

Thanks for reading.

What Is A Mind Map

What is mind mapping

A hand drawn mind map
Mind map drawn by Aranya – GNU Free Documentation License

Short answer: A very useful image based method for brainstorming.

However, this short answer only covers a fraction of what mind mapping is about. And of course there is a more precise description of mind mapping available at Wikipedia.

Mind mapping is about collecting ideas arranged in a tree like diagram. From a programmers point of view, the creation of such diagrams requires graphical processing. As web browsers weren’t able to do graphical processing for a long time, such applications only existed as classical desktop applications which had to be installed. But times have changed, computers got faster and browsers became more powerful. Mind Mapping is now available as a pure web application – with all its advantages. And because of this, no installation required and your work is accessible anywhere you have an internet connection!

Being a web application, Mind42.com enables another interesting feature realizable on the web: collaboration. Brainstorming is no single user activity – the more people take part in a brainstorming session, the better the results will be. When using mind42, every participant of a brainstorming session has an immediately updated view onto all the already collected ideas.

KickInTheButt.com uses a website called Mind42.com for all of our mind mapping. By using the web based version we can collaborate with ease, and work on out mind maps from anywhere.  It truly is amazing to say the least.
